Apartment at WindHill
Located on the lower level of our main gathering house with its own entrance, the WindHill apartment faces the sunrise with large windows overlooking a private patio and the wildflower prairie. Sleeping areas include a queen bed in the bedroom and a queen-sized futon in the living room. The apartment is also equipped with a table with two chairs, a comfortable arm chair, a three-quarter bath, and a full kitchen. In 2017, we renovated the apartment for wheelchair accessibility, including an ADA-compliant entry and a roll-in shower with a steam option. The apartment is generally used by group retreat facilitators and guests with special needs, but is open to all for reservation based on availability. The apartment is suitable for 1-2 individuals.
Prairie House
Prairie House has a fireplace in the center and its name honors our native landscape and the traditions of our indigenous ancestors. This studio-style cabin contains a twin bed, a glider rocker, a screened-in porch, a table with two chairs, and a full kitchen and bath. Prairie House sits on the edge of the meadow overlooking the Laura with the back porch facing the woods. This cabin is suitable for 1 person.
Rosewood
Rosewood is named after the book Dark Wood to White Rose by philosopher Helen Luke, who was a co-founder of the Three Rivers-based Apple Farm Community. This studio-style cabin with a fireplace contains a twin bed, a full-size futon, a glider rocker, a screened-in porch, a table with two chairs, and a full kitchen and bath. The front window has a view of the Laura with the back porch facing the woods. Rosewood is suitable for 1-2 individuals.
Karuna
Karuna is the Sanskrit word for “compassionate action” in the Hindu tradition. This studio-style cabin with a fireplace contains a twin bed, a full-size futon, a glider rocker, a screened-in porch, a table with two chairs, and a full kitchen and bath. This cabin overlooks the Laura and has a back porch facing the woods. Karuna is suitable for 1-2 individuals.
Jeremiah
Tucked into the woods with a fireplace in the center, Jeremiah bears the name of a Jewish prophet. This studio-style cabin contains a twin bed, a twin-size futon, a glider rocker, a screened-in porch, a table with two chairs, and a full kitchen and bath. Jeremiah is suitable for 1-2 individuals.
Heathwood
Heathwood, named after a co-founder's mother, was the first cabin built on the property. It was constructed using the Christopher Alexander method in which users, rather than the architect, discern the “pattern language” of the space, allowing it to reflect the environment and activity it will exist within and for. All materials for this project were brought in on foot or by wheelbarrow. Nestled back in the woods with a large picture window and an outdoor deck, Heathwood is the smallest and most secluded cabin. Inside is a raised twin bed, a glider rocker, a sizable table with a chair, and a full bath. A small but complete kitchen contains a two-burner stove, a microwave, a toaster oven, and a small refrigerator and freezer. Heathwood is suitable for 1 person.
Heartstone
We named Heartstone after the discovery of heart-shaped rocks around the land. Tucked into the tree line near the Path of Many Faiths, Heartstone has a large living room with a queen futon, a full kitchen and bath, and glass sliding doors that open to a deck and the woods. Two bedrooms each contain a single bed and a desk. Heartstone is suitable for 1-2 individuals or a family with young children.
Hawk's Nest
Built into the tree line overlooking the Laura, Hawk’s Nest offers the sensation of being perched in a tree. We often see and hear hawks soaring the skies above GilChrist, reminding us of their role in our ecosystem and their historic symbolism. A solar-powered cabin nearest to the parking lot and WindHill, Hawk’s Nest is wheelchair accessible. Hawk's Nest has a single bed, a glider rocker, a deck, and a full kitchen and bath. This cabin is suitable for 1 person.
Charlie
Named after the golden retriever who spent his years as the GilChrist Greeter and as a reminder of the ordinary ways in which we witness the sacred. Nestled into the woods, Charlie has a large living room with a queen futon, a full kitchen and bath, and glass sliding doors that overlook a deck and the woods. Two bedrooms each contain a single bed and a desk. Charlie is suitable for 1-2 individuals or a family with young children.
WindHill
Perched atop a hill in the middle of a restored oak savanna prairie, our main gathering house bears a remarkably suitable name. The GilChrist founders designed WindHill with beautiful intention, bringing the prairie into the space with large windows, crafting nooks for contemplation and study, and anticipating the practical needs of small groups on retreat. The main floor, which is fully wheelchair accessible, contains a coat room, a half bath, a full kitchen, a side chapel, a library, and a spacious living room with a fireplace. The upper level has a meditation loft, and the lower level has an additional half bath as well as a guest apartment. The average size of a group using WindHill is about 12 people.
Tree of Life
Originally designed with great creativity and care by a beloved neighbor, Tree of Life is a four-bedroom house nestled into a valley on the edge of a small pond. Each bedroom serves as a mini-hermitage, with a bed, a desk, a comfortable chair, and beautiful views out of the windows. Shared spaces on the main floor include a full kitchen, a large dining/living room with a gas fireplace, a screened-in porch, a three-quarter bath with a tub, a half-bath, and a laundry area. The lower level has a kitchenette and a three-quarter bath with a shower. Nearby, the GilChrist pony and goat keep their pasture trim and tidy. Tree of Life is suitable for longer-term solo retreats of seven nights or more, and for small group retreats of 3-4 people.
Yoga Loft
Tucked into the corner of the main office, the Yoga Loft is a hidden gem. With cork floors, rough cherry trim, and a wheelchair-accessible entry and three-quarter bath, the loft is a good place for guests to access Wi-fi for a little while or enjoy yoga or meditation with small groups of up to 6 people.

Lodging & Rates

Our eight cabins encircle a meadow with a small Stone Chapel for meditation and prayer. All dwellings have central heating and air conditioning, full bathrooms, kitchens, and screened porches or decks. Cabins can accommodate one or two people, depending on the design. We provide everything necessary for a solitary retreat except food and housekeeping services, which are the responsibility of our guests.

In addition to the cabins, we have two houses available for group use and/or extended stays.

Our grounds feature walking trails, ponds, prairies, woods, and a prayer labyrinth for use by all our guests and for the health of our diverse ecosystem.
