Fetzer’s Philanthropic Vision: A Movement of Love
The Fetzer Institute believes that we are at a time in our history when politics alone cannot solve the challenges we face. We believe a lack of Sacred Love is the problem behind the problems. Guided by Fetzer’s Philanthropic Vision, we believe the solution includes a more profound understanding of human flourishing, which requires centering love, faith, spirituality, and other related values to effect change in our world.
We recognize that this requires us to move toward an expansive philanthropic “we” by leveraging resources and expanding the significance of our individual giving. As a result, Fetzer is building out the philanthropic infrastructure to move resources toward faith and spirituality by deepening relationships with other funders and donor advisors who understand the immense possibility of creating new conditions in human flourishing. This, in turn, can ensure a well-funded and well-equipped movement of love that aims to catalyze and support a broad-scale societal transformation toward flourishing for all, rooted in a deep commitment to values of love, faith, and spirituality.
Actualizing Our Vision: Spiritual Solutions to Social Problems
As a funder, Fetzer is making a bold commitment to this important work by pledging $180 million in new funding over the next three to five years. Yet we know that it requires more than one foundation, organization,
or donor to fund a movement of love, faith, and spirituality that can truly heal the problems behind the problems we are experiencing.
To fully actualize our vision, Fetzer’s Ally Development team seeks out and cultivates deep and committed relationships with members of the philanthropic community. Together, we co-develop and spark shared understandings of the role of love, faith, and spirituality in our giving and leverage our collective resources.
We focus on “friend-raising” by creating spaces to learn and experiment with other funders through an informed, iterative, and impact-oriented learning journey.
Our friendraising approach:
![]() | Provides strategic advice to help deepen the impact of donors, donor advisors, and family offices who believe in the promise of a movement of love and who value the role of faith and spirituality. |
![]() | Activates philanthropic institutions around funding faith and spirituality by providing evidence-based funding practices, exposing them to a cadre of potential grantees, and connecting foundation staff to a community of peers exploring faith and philanthropy. |
![]() | Invests in faith and spirituality funding networks and pooled funds to leverage more resources, increase the tangible impact of our support, and share strategies to grow this movement of love together. |
