Renewing Public Life Through the Sacred

Healing Public Life by Re-centering Spirit, Meaning, and Moral Imagination

In today’s fractured public square, fear, cynicism, and polarization have taken root. Yet beneath the noise, a quiet movement is emerging — one that seeks to restore public life through spiritual renewal, moral courage, and sacred-centered leadership.

The Fetzer Institute’s Public Life Collaborative brings together leaders who believe that faith, spirituality, and meaning-making have a rightful place in civic life — not as tools for domination, but as resources for healing, dignity, and the common good. These leaders span religious traditions, cultural backgrounds, and ideological perspectives, yet they share a commitment to transforming public life from within.

This collaborative nurtures a new kind of civic imagination — one shaped by inner life, humility, and hope. Its members are scholars, faith leaders, artists, organizers, bridge-builders, and spiritual practitioners working to confront toxic polarization, reclaim the sacredness of dialogue, and offer a moral vision grounded in love and shared humanity.

By honoring deep difference, embracing story and ritual, and integrating ancient wisdom with contemporary challenges, this collaborative invites us into a public life rooted in belonging, justice, and reverence.

This is not merely about public policy — it is about public healing.
