Faith & Media: A Brighter Future Together
Bridging Media and Faith to Deepen Understanding and Inspire Collaboration
In today’s interconnected world, media and faith are two pillars that shape our societies. Yet, a gap often exists between them, leading to misrepresentations and missed opportunities for mutual enrichment. The Coalition for Faith & Media seeks to bridge this divide by bringing together culture makers and thought leaders from diverse backgrounds to foster deeper understanding and collaboration between media and faith institutions.
Recognizing that 84% of the global population identifies with a religion, the Coalition emphasizes the importance of accurate and nuanced portrayals of faith in media. Surveys indicate that 61% of people believe media perpetuates faith-based stereotypes, and only 20% of journalists feel confident in covering religious topics. By addressing these challenges, the Coalition aims to restore trust and promote inclusivity.
Through research, education, and cultural engagement, the Coalition supports the creation of meaningful faith storytelling, facilitates open dialogues around spirituality, and works to improve faith’s portrayal in media and society. Initiatives include:
- Research: Supporting studies like the HarrisX Faith & Entertainment Global Study and the Gallup Mental Health & Spirituality Study to understand and enhance faith representation in media.
- Education: Designing workshops and training programs for journalists, faith leaders, and entertainment writers to build capacity for accurate faith coverage.
- Culture Change: Engaging in media, op-eds, and panel discussions to spark global conversations about the role of faith in society.
- Thought Leadership: Publishing reports on integrating religion into media practices, including faith-rooted diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
