GilChrist Retreat Center 56265 Day Rd Three Rivers, MI

A weekend to develop and deepen with meditation practice, rest, and self-compassion

This weekend retreat will offer the opportunity to learn and experience the core aspects of mindfulness meditation. Both beginning and experienced meditators will gain from the short teachings mixed with space and time. The teaching times will focus on developing concentration and compassion with loving kindness meditation as part of every session. The Resting into Mindfulness retreat will be a great chance to learn a process of meditation that can unearth itself within you and not be forced, letting the learnings unfold. If this idea appeals to you, then this is the weekend for you!

About the Facilitator
John Howie began meditating in 1975 when he read the book The Relaxation Response by Herbert Benson. He has continued practicing since then, including extensive training from Naropa University, and has led meditation at GilChrist Retreat Center for over 19 years. John is a trained facilitator for Table Work, which is a method of contemplative inquiry using deep relaxation and imagery. In addition to contemplative practices, John has worked as a counselor for over 20 years and has a doctorate degree in counseling from Western Michigan University. He is currently enrolled in a two-year mindfulness teacher training program with Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield.
